This Season of Good News

I think sometimes we take for granted – or perhaps we forget – what this season really is all about.

The Good News. The Gospel.

In this season we acknowledge Jesus’s death, and we celebrate His resurrection from the dead.

But, what does this [Easter] season means for us?

Everyone has sinned. Yet God showed us grace. “When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners (Romans 5:6, NLT).” Jesus was punished for our sins and died as a sacrifice for our sins. By dying, Christ broke the power of the devil, who had the power of death (Reference Hebrews 2:14). “But God is so rich in mercy, and He loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, He gave us life when He raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) For He raised us from the dead along with Christ…(Ephesians 2:4-6a, NLT)”

“Can we boast, then, that we have done anything to be accepted by God? No, because our acquittal is not based on obeying the law. It is based on faith. So we are made right with God through faith…” (Romans 3:27-28a, NLT)

We have forgiveness. We have grace. We have mercy. We have hope. We have life.

“Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of His wonderful grace? Of course not! Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it. Or have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism, we joined Him in His death? For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives. Since we have been united with Him in His death, we will also be raised to life as He was. We know that our old sinful selves we were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin. And since we died with Christ we know we will also live with Him. We are sure of this because Christ was raised from the dead, and He will never die again. Death no longer has any power over Him. When He died, He died once to break the power of sin. But now that He lives, He lives for the glory of God. So you also should consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus.” (Romans 6:1-11, NLT)

Let us not get so caught up in the busyness of the season. Slow down enough to remember what it is all about. Let us be careful to not forget what we have been forgiven of and what He went through for us. Let us not take this good news for granted.

  1. In Christ we have every spiritual blessing. It is so easy to forget this stunning truth in the complexity and busyness of life. Great reminder to slow and savor!
